Red Riding Hood

This is a gruesome idea that really used to scare me, although having done much more research on it since I have found out the origins of the tale were far more gruesome.

Originating in France as a tale to warn young girls against paedophiles and various other brutal themes, the Grimm Brothers adapted it to appeal to a much wider audience, around

the time that fairytales became more for children than adults.

I decided to twist this story more so than any of the others, to include once again, a personal negative experience as well as injecting some of my love of mythological creatures.

Using the on-going theme from so many original fairytales in which a male figure has control over the feeble female, shedding a very bad light on the ‘weaker sex’. Red Riding Hood was always referred to as ‘little’, which I personally find offensive, no matter what age she was when the event happened.

I chose to show my version of Red Riding Hood as the hero. She comes back to get revenge on the wolf, but it takes an unexpected turn for the worse when she realises she has come away from the battle with a bite, thus becoming infected with lycanthropic transformation.
