Thumbelina

From the brain of Hans Christian Anderson is Thumbelina, one of my all time favourite stories that includes love, loneliness, betrayal, kidnapping, singing and so much more. I have been amazed by this tale ever since I saw the 1994 Don Bluth animation film and have read the story many times since. Something about tiny tiny people and fairies just had me so hooked and intrigued. It reminded me of all the polly pockets I had and how much I loved them too. The story is beautiful and has a lovely ending with Thumbelina marrying the fairy Prince and living happily ever after.... Something that I have suffered with and will suffer with for the rest of my life is depression. So many people around me have also suffered. It's a beautiful suffering that can sometimes make us see how great life can really be, once the negativity has shaken off.

This story always pained me because it was upsetting to see such a beautiful creature go through such despair. I wanted to highlight, through my professional images, how even the prettiest beings can be suffering on the inside. An heartbreaking melancholy affair that we've all felt at one point or another. Thumbelina alone in the world, unfortunately never finding her fairy prince and being forced to live a life of solitude.
